Reading with eyes opened

In April 2014, I decided to re-read the Bible from the beginning. I wanted to read it with an open mind and new understanding.
I have only reached Genesis 10 and already I am disgusted with what I have read so far.
I have summarised the chapters and added notes, comments and questions.

Apologists will say we can never know the mind of God. But from what I have read, I do not want to know this horrific God. If God was real, I would not want anything to do with him, knowing he had taken so many lives just in the first 10 chapters of one book.
Whatever his reasons are, I cannot accept the reasoning. I don't have to.
Luckily he is not real and the people he killed in the flood did not actually die that way and in such incredible numbers, not to mention the innocent, sinless animals he created and declared GOOD.

GENESIS 1
·         DAY 1 God created heavens and earth. God created light.
But this light is not the Sun as Sun was created on Day 4.
·         DAY 2 God created firmament, divided the waters. Firmament He called Heaven.
 Is this Heaven sky?
·         DAY 3 God gathered the water into one place and let dry land appear. The earth then brought forth grass, herb and fruit trees.
The plant life do not need sunlight as the Sun was not yet created until the next day.
·         DAY 4 God created lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide day, night, seasons and years. He made 2 great lights, the greater for day (Sun) the lesser for night (moon). He made the stars (also).
Moon makes its own light? We know not there are other Suns and many more moons.
·         DAY 5 God made birds, sea creatures. They were to be fruitful and to multiply.
·         DAY 6 God made living creatures (mammals) and creeping thing (reptile, insects). God made man is ‘their’ image and ‘their’ likeness. Man had dominion over fish, birds, cattle and creeps.
Then he created man in ‘his own image’. Male and female he created them. God blessed them and they were to be fruitful and to multiply. They had dominion over fish of the sea, birds in the air and every living thing that moves. God gave man every herb, every tree as food. To every beast, bird, creeps, he gave green herb for food.
God made male and female together? All living things then were vegetarians/ herbivores? Man was created in one God's likeness or many God's likeness? Man was made whole?
    GENESIS 2
·         DAY 7, the heavens, earth and all the host of them were finished. So God blessed and  sanctified the day and rested.
God needed to rest? Has he been resting since?
·         2:4 -7 God made the earth and the heavens before any plant, before any herb. The Lord God had not caused it to rain and there were no man to till and water. So the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, breathed into his nostrils and man became a living thing.
Totally different from Gen 1 account of creation. Here God only created 1 human being, no Eve, no animals - land, air or sea. God did not make man whole but from dust.
Here onwards, God became the Lord God. (TLG)
·         2:8-17 TLG planted Eden, from there a river became 4 riverheads. TLG took man to Eden to tend and keep. He commanded the man to eat from every tree but not from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. (TKGE).
The man shall die in the day he ate of it.
Still just the man and plant life, no other creatures or being. Did Adam ask God what death is?
·         2:18-20 TLG said it was not good that man be alone and wanted to make him a helper comparable to him.
TLG out of the ground, formed every beast and every bird and brought them to Adam for naming. Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds and to every beast. But Adam could not find a helper comparable to him.
The man now became Adam. TLG made living creatures for him to find a mate amongst them, not another human was thought of by TLG until Adam could not find the mate amongst the creatures. Adam named all the cattle? As in each of them has a name?
·         2:20-25 TLG caused Adam to fall into deep sleep and took one of his ribs to make it into a woman.
Then Adam called the being Woman. Then man shall leave his parents and be joined to his wife to become one flesh. They were naked but not ashamed.
Adam is 1st man, woman 1st woman (not named yet). Male and female here not created together. Man came before the beasts and birds. A&E 1st wedded couple, no parents to leave.
       Genesis 3
·         3:1-5 The serpent was more cunning than any beast which TLG made. The serpent said to the woman, had God indeed said she shall not eat of every tree. The woman replied they can except for one – TKGE, which will cause death. The serpent said she will not die but her eyes will be opened and she will be like God, knowing good and evil.
In Genesis 2, God only told Adam, we presume Adam shared the instruction. We presume the serpent talked human language. Only serpents talk or all living creatures? The serpent is ‘more cunning’ – means the other animals were also cunning but not more than the serpent? Why did TLG make cunning animals? Didn't God call them good? Cunning is good?
·         3:6-8 So the woman seeing it was pleasant to the eyes, with desire to become wise, took it to eat. She also gave Adam to eat. Their eyes now opened, knew they were naked and sewed fig leaves together as coverings.
They heard TLG walking and hid.
Wanting to be wise is apparently not a virtue? A&E learned sewing. TLG walked on 2 legs?
·         3:9-15 TLG called to Adam wanting to know where he was. Adam replied he heard TLG but was ashamed of their nakedness and hid. TLG realised Adam had taken fruit from TKGE. Adam blamed God and the woman at one go.
TLG rebuked the woman, the woman blamed the serpent. Then TLG cursed the serpent more than all cattle, ordered him to go on his belly and to eat dust. TLG will put enmity between the serpent seed and the woman’s seed. The serpent shall bruise the woman’s head and the woman shall bruise His heel.
TLG cursed the serpent more than all cattle means all cattle were also cursed but the serpent more so? Before being cursed to go on his belly, how did the serpent move around? The serpent can only eat dust and nothing else? The enmity between seeds? The serpent will bruise the woman’s head while on the ground on his belly?
The woman shall bruise whose heel? The serpent had heels?
·         3:16-19 TLG shall multiply the woman’s sorrow and conception, shall cause pain at childbirth, made her desire her husband and the husband shall rule over her. TLG punished Adam for listening to his wife and ate the forbidden fruit. TLG shall bring forth thorns and thistles, Adam shall eat herb and sweat for bread. Adam shall till the ground and when he dies, return to dust.
The woman cursed, Adam cursed. Both still vegetarians. Adam is punished for heeding his wife. It is wrong to listen to one's wife? She shall lust after her husband and be ruled over?
Thorn and bristles began to exist. They were both still alive and not surely dead.
·         3:20-22 Now Adam named his wife Eve because she was mother of all living. TLG made them clothing.
TLG said Adam had become like one of THEM, knowing G&E. TLG feared man will live forever. TLG sent him out of the garden to till the ground. TLG placed cherubim at the east of Eden with a flaming sword which turned every way to guard the tree of life.
After all this time, the woman finally had a name. Eve now mother of all living,
including animals and plants? Both were sent out or only Adam?

               Genesis 4
·         4:1-7 Cain and Abel were born. Cain a tiller like Adam, Abel a shepherd. Cain brought offering of fruit, Abel a firstborn of his flock and their fat. TL respected Abel’s offering but scoffed at Cain’s causing him to be angry.
TL said to Cain that he had no reason to be angry, if he did well, Sin will not be at his door.
TLG now is TL. Cain being a farmer offered his produce and TL is not happy. Abel being a shepherd offered an animal and fat, TL is pleased? WHY? God is just?
·         4:8-14 Cain killed Abel in the field, TL asked Cain about Abel, Cain lied he did not know, said he was not his brother’s keeper. TL said he can hear Abel’s blood calling to Him. So he cursed Cain that when he tills the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength. Cain shall be a fugitive and a vagabond. Cain complained that the punishment was too harsh. And anyone who finds him will kill him. TL set a mark on Cain that whoever kills him, vengeance shall be taken on him 7-fold.
Who really caused the 1st murder to take place? Who was Cain afraid of since there were only 3 people on earth. Whoever kill Cain will be avenged 7 fold by whom?
·         4:16-24 Cain was cast out went lived in Nod. Cain knew his wife and bore Enoch.
Cain bore Enoch, Enoch bore Irad, Irad bore Mehujael, Mehujael bore Methushael, Methushael bore Lamech.
Lamech had 2 wives Adah and Zillah. Adah bore Jabal and Jubal. Lamech killed a man for wounding him, even a young man for hurting him. He told his wives if Cain shall be avenged 7-fold, he shall be 77-fold.
Where did Cain’s wife come from, since all living things came from Eve only and she only bore Cain and Abel so far. 8 generations beginning with Adam, all male names. Females not mentioned or no female were born?
Murder was permitted and murderer shall be avenged 77-fold?
·         4:25-26 Seth was born and he begot Enosh.
Another male birth.
       Genesis 5
·         Adam was 130 begot Seth, died 930. Had sons and daughters.
·         Seth was 105 begot Enosh, died 912. Had sons and daughters.
·         Enosh was 90 begot Cainan , died 905. Had sons and daughters.
·         Cainan was 70 begot Mahalalel , died 910. Had sons and daughters.
·         Mahalalel was 65 begot Jared, died 895. Had sons and daughters.
·         Jared was 162 begot Enoch, died 962. Had sons and daughters.
·         Enoch was 65, begot Methuselah. Walked with God 300 years, God took him when he was 365 years old. Had sons and daughters.
·         Methuselah was 187 begot Lamech, died 969. Had sons and daughters.
·         Lamech was 182 begot Noah, died 777. Declared Noah will comfort them etc.
·         Noah was 500 begot Shem, Ham and Japheth.
Enoch never died but was taken by God. Firstborn always male, followed by male and female. All lived long lives, doing what?
      Genesis 6
·         6:1-8 Men and daughters were born. The sons of God found DOM beautiful and took them as wives.
TL said his spirit shall not strive with man forever since they were made of flesh.  Cut short man’s life to 120 years. There were giants on earth in those days and more later when sons of God came in to DOM and bore children. TL saw that the wickedness of man was great and man was evil. TL was sorry that he had made man and was grieved. TL decided to wipe everything out, sparing only Noah and his family.
Giants existed before sons of God came into DOM? More giants produced when SOG came into DOM?
TL regretted creating man? TL wanted to wipe out EVERYTHING?
·         6:9-12 God saw earth was corrupt and filled with violence, all flesh were corrupt.
How did the sons of God come to earth to corrupt the women? Why were they permitted to come to earth?
Where did they come from? Heaven? Things coming from heaven can be lustful?
·         6:13-22 The building of the Ark with 1 window and 1 door. God will flood earth which will destroy all breathing living things. Noah, wife, 3 sons and 3 DIL shall bring 2 of every sort into the ark. Noah had to gather food for his family and the livestock.
1 door, 1 window? All living things drowned, including Noah’s other relatives, his parents etc?
How do they tell male from female of every beasts, birds, creeps? How did the animals from far away land be gathered? The animals were all herbivores so they won’t eat one another? They will have enough food and no waste matter?

       Genesis 7
·         7:1-6 TL said to Noah to get into the ark with his household because he found Noah righteous. He told Noah to take 7 each of every clean animal, male and female, 7 of birds, M&F, 2 each of unclean ones M&F. 7 days later it will start to rain for 40 days and 40 nights. Noah was 600 when the flood were on the earth.
Now Noah was to collect 7 different species. What made the animals clean or unclean and why were they made so? How did Noah get the birds from the sky and the creeping things and the beasts? What did they eat on the Ark?
·         7:7-24 Noah started loading the animals, birds into the ark, clean ones and unclean ones, 2 by 2. Then the windows of heaven opened, rain came for 40 days and 40 nights.
The waters prevailed for 150 days, everything died except for Noah and the living things in the ark.
The ark floated going everywhere and nowhere? Floated how high up? The livestock did not reproduce in the 150 days? They have no wasted matter? There was enough food?
     Genesis 8
·         8:1-5 The God remembered Noah and the ark. God made a wind to pass over the earth and the waters subsided, the fountains and the windows of heaven stopped. The rain was restrained. After 150 days, the waters decreased and the ark rested on Mt Ararat on month 7th ,17th day. In the 10th month, on the 1st day, the tops of the mountains were seen.
What does it mean that God remembered?
·         8:6-12 40 days later, Noah opened the window, sent out a raven. It flew back and forth until the waters dried up.
Noah also sent out a dove but it returned as it could find no resting place for its sole.
After 7 more days, Noah sent the dove out again. This time it came back with a freshly plucked olive leaf.
That meant the waters had receded. 7 days later, he sent out the dove again and it did not return.
Imagine the smell after 150 days with a window just opened. Why couldn’t God tell him whether the water had receded? God had again forgotten about him? The dove that did not return, what happened to its species, with only 1 dove left, who did it mate with?
·         8:13-19 in year 601, 1st month, 1st day, the waters dried up. Noah removed the covering of the ark and indeed the surface was dry. In the 2nd month, 27th day, the earth was dried. So now God spoke and told Noah to go out with everything he brought with him.
Now God decides to speak to Noah and gave Noah the instruction to leave. Noah did not need instruction to set the birds out. The raven that flew off was male or female? The raven left behind? Same goes to the Dove.
They will find one another ‘out’ there?
·         8:20- Noah built TL an altar, took of every clean animal, bird and offered burnt offering. TL was pleased with the soothing aroma. He promised he will never curse the ground for man’s sake though man’s heart was evil. He promised he will never destroy every living thing.
So now all the ‘clean’ animals and birds are dead. TL loved the aroma. It was not mentioned he ate or anyone ate of the burnt offering. They were just burnt for TL’s pleasure.
Now how did the animals, bird, creeps survive when everything was destroyed. Their now food source is?
They still herbivores?
TL and not God in these verses.
          Genesis 9
·         9:1-17 God blessed Noah and his sons, told them to be fruitful and multiply. Told them they had dominion over all living things. Told them to eat only green herbs. Told them not to eat flesh that had blood.
God promised them he will never take life by drowning, there will be no more flood.
God made a rainbow to appear as a sign of his promise, which he will look as a reminder.
God needs reminders!
·         9:18- 28 Ham had son Canaan. Noah now a farmer and he planted a vineyard. He got drunk and got naked.
Ham saw and told Sham and Japheth. Sham and Japheth took a garment, laid it on their shoulders and walked backwards and covered the drunken father without peeping.
Noah awoke and knew what Ham had done so he cursed Canaan. He shall be servants to his brethren. Noah blessed TL who was God of Shem, and Canaan shall be his servant, Noah asked God to enlarge J and that he may dwell in the tents of Shem and Canaan shall also be his servant.Noah died at 950.

The righteous Noah got drunk and naked. Ham who saw him naked had his own son cursed. First case of slavery?
Genesis 10
  • Japheth had 7 sons, Gomer had 3 sons, Javan had 4 sons. From these the coastland peoples of the Gentiles were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.
Confusing statements. Again only sons were born or only sons were worthy of mention?
So they already have their own language?
  • Ham had 4 sons, Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan. Cush had 5+1 sons. Cush's son Raamah had 2 sons. Nimrod, on of Cush's sons was a mighty hunter before the Lord.
All the way to end of Gen 10, only births of sons were mentioned. Also mentioned were
that they seemed to have their own languages.
